Research Professor in Geological Modeling & Reservoir Characterization, Berg-Hughes Center and Department of Geology and Geophysics, Texas A&M University

The Berg-Hughes Center for Sedimentary and Petroleum Systems and the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University invite applications from individuals for a non-tenure-track, one-year renewable contract position as a Research Professor (assistant to full professor ranks will be considered) in Geological Modeling & Reservoir Characterization beginning March 1,2018. This position will be a joint appointment with teaching, research and service responsibilities in the Berg-Hughes Center and the Department of Geology and Geophysics. The position could vary from part time to full time, depending on the availability of candidate and funds.

The principal responsibility of this position is to be spearhead the collaborative research and teaching programs in the Berg-Hughes Center and the Crisman Institute of the Department of Petroleum Engineering. This responsibility includes leading in the development of a robust externally funded research program in Reservoir Modeling of Unconventional Reservoirs. Specific duties include
1) Oversee Unconventional Oil & Gas Resource research and build advanced 3D reservoir and geomechanical models for predictive geological, fracture and simulation models
2) Generate reservoir properties maps and carry out hydrocarbon in place calculations & work with reservoir and petroleum engineers
3) Participate in the teaching of subsurface mapping/ modeling and reservoir characterization to undergraduates and graduates
4) Serve as mentor for students sponsored through Berg Hughes Center

Applicants must have a record of success in working collaboratively with researchers in academia and the petroleum industry and be enthusiastic about teaching integrative courses and supervising graduate students in petroleum geology, subsurface mapping, petrophysics, rock physics, geomechanics, petroleum engineering, and related areas.

Applicants must have earned Ph.D. or M.S. at the time of appointment. Successful applicants will be expected to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including classes in the Petroleum Certificate curriculum and to supervise undergraduate, M.S. at the time of appointment. Successful applicants will be expected to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including classes in the Petroleum Certificate Curriculum and to supervise undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. research, including students who are interested in pursuing careers in the petroleum industry. Applicants are expected to build and maintain a collaborative research program with colleagues in the College of Geosciences, the Berg-Hughes Center, and the Department of Geology and Geophysics, the Department of Petroleum Engineering, and other energy related groups at Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University and with geoscientists and petroleum engineers in the oil and gas industry and other national and international research institutions. Specific selections criteria are
A) Advance knowledge of Petreland and other geological applications
B) Good understanding of the principles of reservoir mapping, petrophysics analysis and geostatics
C) Hands on experience to extract and transfer data for well, pad and segment from the geological model for free and flow stimulation purposes
D) Excellent understanding of the current challenges and developments in reservoir modeling of fractured unconventional reservoirs and of Discrete Fracture Network modeling processes
E) Ability to carry out advanced modeling routines and guide the graduate students in their research
F) Ability to interact with reservoir and petroleum engineers and participate in the integrated modeling studies
G) Past experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and successfully generating complete reservoir models is advantageous
