<P>Job/Position Description
RMG Redac Spec AA III

This position analyzes, screens and redacts Texas Department of Family & Protective Services (FPS) records for release outside the agency. Work involves interpreting state and federal laws, rules, and agency policy guidelines on confidentiality and exercising independent judgment in implementation of law and policies and must work with a very high degree of accuracy to avoid possible civil and criminal liability. The position interacts routinely with judges, court personnel, attorneys in criminal and civil cases; District and County attorneys, law enforcement; legislative staff, Ombudsman's office, FPS staff, members of the general public.

Essential Job Functions
Screens, analyzes and redacts agency records for release under statutes and agency policies.

Contacts attorneys, general public, other state agencies in regards to follow-up on records request.

Coordinates the release of records with staff, attorneys, therapists, other state agencies

Prepares billings and calculates and collects fees.

Creates and maintains daily logs and monthly reports of records requests, subpoenas, and discovery requests.

Answers written correspondence pertaining to records requests.

Answers incoming calls concerning records requests, subpoenas and discovery requests.

Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations.

Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers and all work-related contacts.

Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications
None required

Knowledge Skills Abilities
Knowledge of legal terminology
Knowledge of state legal statutes and agency policy concerning confidentiality of FPS records
Knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Skill in effective verbal and written communication
Ability to prepare clear and correct written communications
Ability to recognize and appropriately handle legal documents, such as subpoenas and discovery documents
Ability to operate a personal computer and other office equipment
Ability to organize and maintain files and logs of requests and records
Ability to work in a stressful environment and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ability to work under minimal supervision

Initial Screening Criteria
Graduation from high school or equivalent
Three years full-time administrative support, general office, clerical, secretarial or FPS experience.
Redaction experience is preferred over the above screeniing criteria.
