Job Description

Perform advanced professional legal work in the Elections Division. Provide legal advice and counsel regarding elections to local election officials throughout the State of Texas and to the general public.

Advise local election officials, candidates, and the general public on election-related matters by telephone and in writing.
Draft rules to implement election laws.
Draft and track legislation relating to election laws.
Conduct election schools and make educational presentations concerning the Texas election laws.
Draft and render legal opinions.
Assist the Office of the Attorney General Office (OAG) in preparing cases for trial.
May represent the agency with the OAG in matters before the courts.
Confer with and advise interested parties and their attorneys on election-related legal matters.
Review election materials translated into Spanish for content and tone.
Perform related work as assigned such as preparing handbooks, brochures, and forms.

Education, experience, and training.

LL.B. or J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school
Two years of legal work experience.
Legal research and writing experience as a licensed attorney.
Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Ability to speak Spanish fluently.
Relevant experience translating documents from English to Spanish.

Must currently be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent verbal and writing skills. Writing sample must be submitted at time of application.

Knowledge of Texas Election Law.
Legislative experience.
Experience speaking before a public audience.
Supervisory Experience Required No
Pay Between $4,071.83 / MO and $4,071.83 / MO
