Job Description

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for reviewing and processing documents for publication in the Texas Register. Duties include examining rules and other documents submitted by state agencies to determine if they meet all statutory requirements and are acceptable for filing and publication. Duties also include working with other team members to compile and produce the weekly issue of the Texas Register. Work involves answering, placing and transferring calls, and providing general information. Work under moderate supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment within limits of established policies and procedures. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On rare occasions overtime may be required.

Examples of Work
Review and process proposed and adopted rulemaking documents that affect the Texas Administrative Code
Operate computer using MS Office and Arbortext Editor software
Answer questions and provide general information to agency contacts and the public
Assist with agency-related work as assigned

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED
Two years of relevant work experience using a personal computer with MS Windows and MS Office software

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of administrative, clerical, and data entry procedures and systems
Ability to type 40 CWPM with no more than 5 errors
Demonstrate spelling ability of a minimum of 70%
Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet publication deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, agency contacts, and the public
Ability to build appropriate rapport and maintain positive working relationships
Ability to adhere to an approved work schedule and maintain punctual attendance
Ability to work overtime when required

Preferred Qualifications
4 year degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
Relevant work meeting deadlines
One year of relevant administrative support work experience
Supervisory Experience Required No
Pay Between $2,478.83 / MO and $2,478.83 / MO
