The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the Department of Homeland Security is seeking a limited number of applicants for temporary jobs in Austin, TX.

Serve as subject matter specialist and respond to request for information from Disaster Recovery Centers, Joint Field Offices (JFO) and HM Floodplain Management Group on NFIP insurance questions, issues, or problems. Communicates HM program information to internal partners and external audiences. Provide technical assistance to internal and external partners on insurance issues. Respond to inquiries from internal and external partners such as insurance agents, lenders, adjusters, and Federal, State, and local government officials regarding insurance issues; in a timely manner with accurate information. Distribute National Flood Insurance Program information to disaster-affected communities and local insurance offices. Supports the floodplain management program and process by attending as needed community coordination meetings with local government officials to explain flood insurance implications of new or revised flood insurance studies and or flood insurance rate maps and floodway maps. Provides technical assistance and advisory solutions to problems relating to the NFIP as received by telephone, correspondence, media, or personal visits from individuals, groups, community leaders, Congressional requests, and various Federal and State officials. Provides to insurance agents, real estate firms, community officials, property owners and others specific solutions to problems on the writing and rating of flood insurance policies. Supports efforts to enroll communities in the National Flood Insurance Program by communicating with stakeholders and local officials while coordinating efforts with Floodplain Management and Risk Reduction branches. Supports the efforts to Assess, evaluate, and determine the actual flood hazard and potential growth of selected small communities for the purpose of converting to the lower, actuarial rates for insurance those communities with minimal flood hazards and growth.
Educates a diverse audience, such as local government leaders, lending institution officials, and other interested groups, on the many aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program through conducting workshops, seminars, speeches, as needed. Coordinates with insurance servicing contractor to assure broad understanding of insurance rate structure and rating policies and procedures by participating in workshops for insurance agents and working through the contractor to resolve insurance related problems for individuals.

Relevant Experience Required:
Experience with: Community coordination activities and meetings, Community Assistant and Program Evaluations, Coastal area flood plain management, Comprehensive community planning. A minimum of 3 years’ experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Prepares reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinate the preparation and communication of work-related information to the supervisor;
• Experience in the sales, servicing, or educating individuals in flood, property or casualty insurance policies or programs

Additional Workweek Details This is a TEMPORARY position and it may be terminated at any time for any reason. A Local Hire appointment does not entitle you to federal civilian status.
You may be required to work 10-12 hour a day 7 days a week.
The work is primarily sedentary. Travel is required for meetings, interviews and may include site visits.
