Job Description

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the Department of Homeland Security is seeking a limited number of applicants for jobs in Denton, TX.

All candidates should possess strong computer, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Eighteen years of age and US Citizenship is required. Selected candidates will be required to complete a background investigation which includes finger printing. Employer is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Salaries are comparable to local pay rates.

JOB DUTIES:
The Environmental Technician will be responsible for conducting Environmental and Historic Preservation compliance reviews. Understanding of NEPA and NHPA is a plus. Knowledge of Environmental Laws and Executive Orders and Historic Preservation Laws is a plus.
• Preparation and/or review of studies, written reports, charts, graphs, maps, and other documentation that describes the technical methods and results of surveys of properties identified for environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, survey reports, and design memorandum. The preparation of documentation may concern items of archaeological, geological, and historical significance in relation to other environmental factors that are considered in selecting and recommending the most desirable plan of development.
• The candidate should have strong communication skills, and be able to handle a stressful work environment.
• The candidate should possess computer, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience with Google Earth is preferred but not required.

REQUIREMENTS:
The Environmental Technician requires a degree in natural resource management, historic preservation, landscape architecture, environmental planning, environmental engineering, ecology, environmental science/studies, history, marine biology, or directly related field such as but not limited to background in fish and wildlife, environmental, architecture, or other professional job experience in the field. Prior career work experience in public service or private consulting is preferred but not required. Experience completing environmental compliance reviews with state or federal agencies and coordinating with resource and regulatory agencies is preferred but not required. Prior FEMA experience is preferred but not required.
Good interpersonal, communication, analytical skills.
Written communication and computer skills to generate reports, correspondence, review documentation. Maintain computer based tracking and appointment systems. Developing office materials such as filling systems. Specific knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to multi-task.
Ability to work effectively either independently or as part of a team.

Must have knowledge of/experience with NEPA, NHPA, Environmental Laws and Executive Orders.
Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and protect confidential and sensitive information.
