Position Title: HM Community Planner

Duties & Responsibilities:
As a HM Community Planner with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
• Work directly with communities on developing neighborhood level projects that work towards mitigating against future floods.
• Will gather information/situational awareness on planning and recovery capacity needs from communities related to neighborhood level planning requirements. Will work to build capacity and resources to develop solutions to close identified gaps. Will identify potential resources, including funds, and technical assistance that promotes and support the use of best mitigation and building technologies.
• Must coordinate integration of hazard mitigation and sustainability principles into neighborhood level recovery planning efforts. Assist in the development of institutional capacity of local leadership and institutions playing a lead role in recovery through technical assistance. Develop focused solution sets that communities can use as projects for funding sources including local, state and federal funding.

Educational Requirements:
• High School / GED
• Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning, Engineering or closely related field

Relevant Experience Required:
• Candidates that possess an accredited degree in any of the following are preferred but not required: Urban Planning or Civil/Structural/Construction/Environmental/Coastal/Electrical/Geotechnical Engineering. The incumbent should have a minimum of four years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Travel is required for meetings, interviews and site visits.
• Proficiency in MS Office software such as MS Word and Excel and other automated data bases.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. All candidates should possess strong computer, typing, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Must have working knowledge of disaster related funding sources, including basic requirements

Selected candidates will be required to complete a background investigation which includes finger printing.

This is a TEMPORARY position for up to 120 days which could be terminated or extended at any time, depending on the needs of the operation. A Local Hire appointment does not entitle you to federal civilian status.

You may be required to work 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

You must provide two forms of ID: such as a VALID Driver License, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate etc. or Passport. (We will not accept if expired.)

Eighteen years of age and US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED.

Direct deposit of salary is a condition of employment.

Salaries are comparable to local prevailing wages.
