The Rehab Therapy Tech position is responsible for psychosocial/rehabilitation sessions for patients diagnosed with mental illness. The position may be responsible for providing Experiential Therapy and Job Coaching to patients we serve. The position is responsible for session planning, assisting in development of new ideas, implementation of program schedule for patients referred, and completion of required documentation in the medical record as well as departmental/program specific documentation within the psychosocial/vocational/rehabilitation sessions. Must meet HHSC standards for driving a state vehicle. Assignments, equipment, and procedures are specified. The supervisor frequently monitors the employees work activities. The employee may be requested to provide assistance to program areas within their classification/training. He/she will be under direct guidance and supervision of the Director of Central Rehabilitation Services, Program Specialist and/or Registered Therapist who will provide clinical and administrative supervision respectively. Completion of work requires use of established methods/techniques and decisions are based on well-defined guidelines. The position will be scheduled to work 40 hours a week and may be flexible. The position is required to demonstrate appropriate role-modeling behaviors for patients and staff in support of the Recovery Model. The employee has full access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Access level Health Care Operations.
Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Complete required documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and established program procedures in order to provide information on attendance and treatment outcomes.
Under the direction of a Registered Therapist/Program Specialist, the Rehabilitation Therapy Technician will facilitate classes to persons referred for services while utilizing modalities which enhance the patientís awareness of their psychiatric illness, addiction, in order to increase patientís knowledge and skills by following Session Evaluation and Recovery Model to achieve individualized treatment goals/objectives.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment by evaluating work area to promote safety and identify potential problems. Assures that work area is free of safety hazards; reports injuries/incidents in a timely manner; demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to hospital and department safety plans and procedures.
Maintains an inventory of adequate supplies and insures maintenance areas are checked and maintained for their assigned program areas. Will monitor/check in and out various Central Rehabilitation items for patientsí needs. Will correct or bring to the attention of the direct supervisor or Director of Central Rehabilitation Services anything that needs repair or service.
With the assistance of the Program Specialist/Registered Therapist the Rehabilitation Therapy Technician will complete Session Plans for the specified program area.
Provide on-going leadership/on the job training with direction of the Program Specialist/Registered Therapist so as to ensure meaningful, educational, and recovery based therapeutic programming that fulfills patientsí therapeutic goals.
Maintains competency through participation in all required hospital and departmental training/meetings (TIPS, Refresher Orientation, CPR, In-Service Training sessions, and morning meetings) to assure up to date skills and knowledge in required areas. Attends annual training as well as any required program specific training in order to assure up to date skills and knowledge in required areas.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor within the personís abilities and classification in order to facilitate smooth program operation.
Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Rehabilitation Therapy Tech III with the direction of the Program Specialist/Registered Therapist will provide monthly calendars.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications: Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications: Must possess valid Texas driverís license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driverís license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Knowledge Skills Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
Must be able to impart general and specific information about treatment, programming and other subjects to professional and non-professional staff.
Provide direction to assigned staff in implementing therapeutic activities to ensure a high level of active participation by patients.
